How to build a poker table.

If you are going to play a lot of poker at home you will want to build a poker table to play on. Yes you can play on the coffee table or kitchen table but a real poker table always adds to the experience. Before you begin building your poker table there are a few question you will want to answer first:

  1. How often will you use it?
  2. How many people are going to be using it?
  3. Where are you going to set it up, how big of an area is it?
  4. Where are you going to store it?
  5. What kind of budget do you have?

Only after you have the answer to these questions should you start to build a poker table. Lets assume that you are going to use the table weekly or evey other week, you have 8 to 12 players, it will be set up in your garage and stored in there to, and you would like to build it with about $100 to $150.

Here is a list of supplies you will need to build a poker table.

  1. 1 - 4' by 8' sheet of 5/8 or 3/4 ply wood or chip board. (if your lumber yard will cut it for you get it cut down to 40" by 96"
  2. 2 - 2 by 4's 8' long
  3. 1 - set of folding legs
  4. 1 - A hand full of 1 1/2 screws
  5. 1 - 1/2" or 1/4" foam 44" by 100"
  6. 1 - piece of felt 44" by 100"
  7. a few small nails

Here are the tool you will need to build a poker table

  1. A good jig saw
  2. a tape measure.
  3. a pencil
  4. a string 4' long
  5. a heavy duty stapler
  6. a hammer
  7. a screw driver.

How to build a poker table

If your ply wood was not pre cut to 40" by 96" do that first. Now take your tape measure and measure 20" from one end mark it then measure 20" from the side making and X. (see diagram 1) Take a small nail and put it part way in on the X now attach your string to the nail and pencil so your pencil is just on the edge keep the string tight as you draw a half circle.

Repeat the above steps at the other end. Now use the jig saw to cut out the half circles. You now have the top of your poker table next you need to strengthen the table with the 2 2" by 4" first look at the folding legs you need to measure the space between the legs. Lets assume that the legs are 20" wide. You need to measure (to be continued)
